Goffstown was incorporated as a town in 1761. Named after an early settler, Colonel John Goffe, it was originally a farm community.

He donated historic documents and memorabilia to the society, as well as a vintage, fully functional toy train set in an elaborate, handcrafted, miniaturized landscape.
